Cayman Rituals — candles and scent from the Cayman Islands

Cayman Rituals, West Indies: the wordmark over the view from the top of the Bluff on Cayman Brac, with the horizon between the two lines. Grey ironshore and low scrub in the foreground, a rock islet in white water below, and open blue sea to the horizon under a sky of small clouds.

Begin at the top ↓

Keep the island.

Cayman is not a beach. From the floor of the Cayman Trench to the top of the Bluff is almost eight vertical kilometres, and every road and house on these islands sits in the top fifty metres of it.

We imagine one thing from each layer: four elements, and the fifth at the bottom of the sea.

The elevations and scent notes are design references; final layer elevations and formulas remain to be confirmed.

The future First Pour study begins with a kitchen table, a saucepan and a coconut shell.

Before there was a brand, there was a ritual.

The planned candle study draws on shells, the people around a table and the island's salt, thatch and rock.

That is the ritual Cayman Rituals hopes to carry forward: slow work, small runs, rooted in the only place these layers exist.

Caymanite was laid down inside the Bluff over millions of years. The house does not intend to extract it for these designs. Future materials should follow a rule like that.

Caymanite
If used, caymanite is intended to come from documented sources and be reserved for numbered pieces; a band-poured Keeper is an alternative study.
Silver thatch
Future thatch pieces are intended to use hand-cut fronds; the house does not intend to use the palm.
Coconut
Coconut shells are a material under consideration; edition size and preparation remain to be confirmed.
Glass
The Keeper is planned as a plain, heavy vessel concept; refill compatibility and any future lid system remain to be confirmed.
Brass
The Rope concept explores a replaceable cord with retained end pieces; durability and service details remain to be confirmed.
Never
The house intends to leave black coral in the sea.

A future register is planned to record materials, source and method for each numbered piece. No numbered release has been confirmed.

Rooted here. Carried everywhere.

First Pour

A future candle edition, inspired by the coconut shell.

First Pour is a future candle study inspired by the coconut shell and the intimacy of a kitchen table. Any edition size, preparation, numbering and cadence will be confirmed before release.
